Metis was originally a hard fork of the Optimism chain but has undergone numerous changes, giving rise to its own computation engine, the Metis Virtual Machine (MVM). The MVM used to be EVM-compatible but has since been re-engineered to be EVM equivalent after its Andromeda update in November 2021. [1]
